Hôtel l’Edelweiss is located in Les Portes du Soleil ski resort, just 300 metres from the Super Châtel ski lifts. It features rooms with free Wi-Fi access and free private parking is provided. Each room is equipped with a TV and a telephone.

Fantastic local food in a traditional setting
We made the mistake of trying to get a table for dinner in Chatel during half term without a reservation. After trying most of the restaurants in the town and giving up hope, we spotted L'Edelweiss. Although it is a fairly small restaurant they were happy to accommodate our table of 8 (including 4 children) without a booking.
The menu is not extensive but we were pleased to see a selection of local dishes. The 4 adults opted for the meat fondue, and it was delicious. It was accompanied by a large bowl of green salad, rice, fries, bread and a variety of sauces. There was so much meat that we couldn't finish it all, although we tried! The children all had the burgers, which again were very generous and they all said that they were great.
There was only one lady serving whilst we were there so service was on the slow side (she seemed rushed off her feet but was always smiling and friendly), but this wasn't an issue for us as we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal, however if you're in a rush it's worth noting.
A glass of wine was very reasonably priced and they had a selection of wines by the bottle.
All in all we had a great meal, and felt it was extremely good value for money. We would go back if in Chatel again.

Bad experience
Run away. Very disappointing stay at the Hotel Edelweiss in Châtel (February 2026). Tiny room of about 10–12 m2: impossible to open suitcases and move at the same time. Extremely small bathroom, unpleasant and unhygienic shower curtain, no privacy for toilet or shower. Flat and uncomfortable pillows, more hot water when several guests have washed.
No cleaning for 3 days: the maid comes by around 9am and, if you are still in the room, she does not come back later when you are no longer there. Hotel very poorly insulated: noise from 7am, not incessant above, noisy cleaning and road traffic impossible to ignore. Cold welcome and no interest in departing guests.
Only positives: location and free parking. For the rest, non-resting stay and poor value for money.

Simple but effective
A simple but efficient hotel, ideal for group travel. The welcome is pleasant and the establishment lacks everything about the services it offers. The breakfast is modest without lacking anything. The position of the hotel in the resort is a real plus.

we won't go back.
we were very disappointed yesterday we came to eat at the EDELWEISS Inn in CHÂTEL we asked for the dish of the day she answered us today only fried and rib at 21 euro
we noticed the other people had the total starter dish cheese and dessert for 15 euro We made the remark she told us the others it's none of your business .. it's very dishonest of her ... the Award is really made at the head of the customer .. we came once but not a 2nd

Would definitely stay here again
I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor about this hotel, but I'm happy to say we had a wonderful time here. We – my grown-up son and I – came for a week's ski break and not spending too much money was important. L'Edelweiss was a good price and for the money we had a perfectly good-sized room with a double and a single bed, a wardrobe, a small table and two chairs, plus a TV (though we never got round to watching it). There was an en suite bathroom with a shower and, while it would have been nice to have a hot bath at the end of a day on the slopes, this is a one-star hotel so you can't have everything. However, the shower was good and there was plenty of hot water. Also, our room was clean, the beds comfortable and the hotel is very well positioned just a 5-minute walk from the centre of town, ski hire and bus stop, and maybe 10 to the Super Chatel gondola, though I don't think you'd want to be any closer or you'd have the noise of the bars emptying out late at night.
As it was, our room at the back of the hotel - though on a road - was quiet. The hotel isn't fancy, but comfortable and welcoming. The owner and the waitress were both very friendly and helpful. We ate our evening meal here and it was consistently good and good value: 3 courses for €16. Nice local fare, like tartiflett, raclette and the local fish. Also, they were fine with finding me a substitute vegetarian option, so that was good too.
