Frechener Hof, Frechen

Owing to the weather we had to dine inside, which is well appointed. We hadn't booked and the maitre d' wasn't best pleased and we felt showed it. The waiting staff were fine and the food was good and well cooked. It was good value and the wine was excellent.

Great stay close to Cologne. Comfortable beds, great breakfast, and courteous staff. Would stay again. Give them a try from an American.

Impersonal hotel

Since I arrived after 4pm, the reception was no longer manned and I checked in via a vending machine. That worked well, but I don't think it's nice. When I booked, I couldn't see that either, and I wouldn't have expected that with a 4-star hotel. The TV in my room unfortunately did not work and when I mentioned this at checkout I was asked if I had pressed the switch? I could have freaked out. At breakfast, someone came to my table only when I had just finished asking if I needed anything else? I didn't feel comfortable from start to finish.

Definitely not 4 stars

Our room was simple and totally impractical in many respects. The operators should stay here themselves, then they would perhaps recognize the many possibilities for improvement. One imposition was the shower: We have never experienced such mouldy joints anywhere. Record! Breakfast was fine and the ladies there friendly.

The bathroom was not well cleaned, the toilet seat loose, double bet not double, no bed side table, no bed site lamp.
