Friendly proprietor, but a number of less-than-ideal issues
Our experience with accommodations under the broad "Apartments" heading has generally been very positive, but this one was somewhat less so. On the positive side, the proprietor (Ferruccio) was very warm and friendly, and made helpful suggestions about using public transit and places to eat.
On the negative side, these were the most serious:
1. The accommodation (at 80 euros per night for a couple) advertised a private bathroom, but in fact it was shared with another room.
2. The door to the room could not be locked (and there was no provision for a safe or strongbox in which to keep valuables). According to Ferruccio, the door had just been damaged and he had not yet been able to schedule a repair. The story he told us in this regard was not altogether persuasive.
3. The (shared) bathroom had adequate hot water in the tub/shower, but not in the bathroom sink. Ferruccio sounded surprised when we told him about this by phone, and sent someone over to look at it. But this person concluded that there was inadequate water pressure created by the sink to trigger the on-demand water heater. If that was in fact the problem (the diagnosis seemed convincing) this could not be a sudden flaw, but a long-standing one. Why had it not been addressed previously?
4.Finally, but most likely not the property's fault, the on-line instructions as to how to reach Capodimonte39 from the train station were not just inadequate, but the map was inaccurate. So much so that we ended up in the Tourist Information bureau where a very kind staffer called the proprietor to get proper instructions.
